Be "Choosy" about Who you Hire...

Of all the functions and activities that fall under the large umbrella of "leadership", nothing - and I mean NOTHING - is more important that staffing. But you sure as heck wouldn't know that based on the way hiring is often handled by most dentists.

I know, I know, hiring the right teammate is a complicated and time-consuming process. And if you're knee-deep in alligators, filling a vacant position can easily be viewed as "just another thing I have to do." So, most dentists rush through a series of steps and activities grabbing the first warm body that seems okay rather than taking the time necessary to identify the best candidate for the job. As a result, they find themselves expending inordinate amounts of time down the road fixing "people problems."

Clearly, the more effort you put into hiring, the less effort you'll have to devote to managing the performance and behaviors of the people you hire. To paraphrase an old adage" You can pay now, or you can pay me later...with interest.

So, take the time to select the right people. Make it a thorough process...a top priority. As a leader, it's imperative that you take selection seriously. Remember, your staff can make you...or they can break you. Ultimately, you'll have to live with, and deal with, whoever you hire.

Find and select the right people for your team - regardless of how busy you may be at the time. You owe it to your patients,, you owe it to your team, and you owe it to your practice.

Continued Success to you and your Team!

Sincerely,

Art Deden
